How many rupees does one US dollar cost?

₹90.09The average price of one US dollar in Dec 2025. ₹1.27 more than in Nov 2025: the rupee weakened against the dollar.
A higher number means a weaker rupee: one dollar costs more rupees. It is an average of the daily reference rate (computed by FBIL since July 2018), not the rate a bank or money changer gives you.

What it means
This is the average of the daily rupee–US dollar reference rate over a month or a financial year, as RBI prints it in its Handbook of Statistics.
The rate is set in the currency market. RBI’s table uses FEDAI indicative rates until April 2012, RBI’s reference rate from May 2012, and the FBIL reference rate from July 2018.
The yearly series starts in 1992-93. For earlier years RBI’s table uses official exchange rates rather than market rates, so they are left out instead of being joined to this line.
What this number is not
- Not the rate you get at a bank counter, a money changer or on a card abroad.
- Not on its own a sign of good or bad times: a weaker rupee makes imports dearer and exports cheaper.

Monthly averages come from Table 205 and yearly averages from Table 133 of RBI’s Handbook of Statistics on the Indian Economy 2025-26. The Handbook is published once a year, so the latest month here is the last one it prints.
