What we keep, and how to remove it.

In short

  • You can read every page without an account. There are no ads. We count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not identify you.
  • We have your email only if you choose to give it, and use it only for what you asked: news of a research topic, or one email when the data you requested is published.
  • Our emails have no tracking pixels or click tracking, and we never sell your address.
  • If you pick a language or dismiss the language hint, we remember that choice in a small cookie named deshboard_lang. We set it only then, and never use it to redirect you.
  • You can remove your email at any time, with the link in any email we send or the form below.

Research updates

If you ask to hear about a research topic, we store your email, the topic you chose, the version of the consent wording you agreed to, and the time you agreed. We do not send anything yet.

This is one general research-interest list, not a marketing profile. We do not sell it, add other data to it, or use it to track your activity. We keep it only while you want to stay on the list.

You can remove your address below at any time. The confirmation is deliberately the same whether or not that address was on the list, so nobody can use the form to find out who signed up.

Requests for missing data

If you use the “Something missing?” card to ask for a number, a date or an announcement, we store the text you typed, the type and topic you chose, the page you sent it from and its language, and the time. We also store a scrambled code made from your internet connection (a keyed hash), which cannot be turned back into your address. We use it only to stop one connection sending more than five requests in 24 hours, and we delete it once it is a day old.

You get a short receipt code such as REQ-7F3KM. It identifies your request without an account, and quoting it is the only way to ask about a request later. Our team reads requests to decide what to add next; they are never shown publicly.

If you leave an email

Leaving an email is optional. If you do, we also store the address, the version of the consent wording you agreed to, and the time you agreed, only so we can tell you when that request is answered. You get one email per request, in the language of the page you sent it from, sent when the data you asked for is published. It says what was published, links to the page and quotes your receipt code. It contains no tracking pixels, images or click tracking.

Emails are sent from the site’s own address through Resend, an email delivery company that handles the message and your address only to deliver it. We do not use it for anything else, and we do not send newsletters or reminders.

Removing your email

Every email has a one-click removal link, and the form below does the same. Either way, your address is removed from every request you made and from the research-updates list. The request text and receipt stay so we can still answer the request. We keep an address until you remove it, or until 90 days after a request is declined or marked as a duplicate, when we delete the whole request.

Contributions

If you use the contribute page to point us to an official release or report a mistake, we store the link you pasted, your optional note (kept private and never published), the page, period, saved link or reason you chose, the time, and a scrambled code made from your connection that we use only to limit abuse and cannot turn back into your address. We do not ask for an email. You get a receipt code such as CTB-7F3KM; the status page shows only the state and the date, never what you sent.

Contributions that we do not accept, or that repeat one we already had, are deleted 90 days after that decision. Accepted contributions are kept as the record of who checked the official file.

Community accounts

If you sign in to write stories, we store your email address (only to sign you in and to send sign-in links), the handle and display name you choose (shown on everything you publish), and the datasets, charts and stories you make. Published stories are public under your handle; drafts are private. Reports readers send about a story are private to the Deshboard team and store a scrambled code made from the reporter's connection, never an address. You can delete your account at any time from the account page; your sign-in, profile, sessions and unpublished work are deleted at once, and so are the files you uploaded, which are kept in a folder of your own. If you use AI assist while writing, the column names, up to 20 rows and your request (or the file you ask it to read) are sent to the AI provider to make the chart or table; nothing it makes is published until you publish it. If you turn on web search, the AI provider searches the web for your request. If you ask for more usage, we keep your request with your account.

You will see the same message whether or not we had the address.
